BJORN KIERULF, MGR.ART, CREATERRA
Originally an industrial designer, now an expert in energy passive houses. As Norwegian he came to Slovakia already in 1989 – before the revolution. Now he wants to promote another revolution in Slovakia – a passive standard. As part of the Createrra architectural study, he focuses primarily on professional issues related to passive standards and the use of natural materials in construction. His vision is affordable, high-quality passive houses built of natural materials. The Createrra Architectural Studio has ten years of experience in more than one hundred passive buildings.
EMA KIABOVÁ, DIPL. ING2. ARCH.
Together with Roman Ruhig in 2016 finished their studies at the Department of Building Structures and Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of STU in Bratislava led by the architect Pavel Paňák and in 2017 the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the STU in Bratislava with the architects Ľubo Závodný and Martin Kusý. At present they are working at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, where they are in the third year of doctoral study Theory and Structures of Building Structures. They deal with theory and practical research on sustainability issues, especially in relation to historic and renewed objects, where they place emphasis equally on the environmental sphere of the issue as well as on the cultural and social issues. Together, they established the ER Atelier Architectural Office, focusing on conceptual work based on the pursuit of urban planning, architecture, and adequate technical solutions to achieve optimal sustainable concepts. During their studies, they regularly participated in various student competitions, thanks to which they managed to successfully represent Slovakia at international finals in Senegal, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Spain. It is these experiences that have provided them with a profound professional shift in the solution of the sustainability principles, which are already intensely trying to instill their students.
ROMAN RUHIG, DIPL. ING2. ARCH.

LENKA BORECKÁ, DIPL. ING. ARCH.
She is a fresh graduate of the STU Faculty of Architecture in Bratislava. She graduated two years of study at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain and the Università degli studi di Firenze in Italy. She graduated with her diploma thesis on renovation of Machnáč in Trenčianske Teplice – from the architectural design of the renovation and the year-round functioning of the plant to the technical solution of the details for improving energy efficiency. At present, she works in the 2021 Architectural Studio, which deals with projects ranging from an outdoor shelter to public space projects (Living Square – Stone Square and SNP Square, 1st Place in the Šafárikovo Square Competition and Fajnorovo riverside…).
KAROL MACHÁNEK, DIPL. ING., CORWIN
Born in Bratislava in 1976 and graduated the STU Faculty of Civil Engineering. For 20 years he has been constructing investors. Currently, he works as a development manager at CORWIN. He advocates sustainable construction and perceives low-energy and passive architecture as an essential way to the future. His aim is to contribute to a change of development perspective as to a tool for co-building public space and improving the quality of urban space.
TOMÁŠ ŠEBO, DIPL. ING. ARCH. ITB DEVELOPMENT
In 1993 he graduated from the STU Faculty of Architecture in Bratislava. He acted as an architect for the French company Bouygues on the projects of the business center of I.Pavlov in Prague, the PSA Trnava and the Accor hotels in Prague. In 2004 he founded ITB Development together with Igor Lichý and also architect studio Architects Šebo Lichy. Several successful development projects, such as the award-winning New Haj – Cezaar 2015 Residential House, the Cershne, Koliska, Mamapapa, Gansberg, Wallenrod Business and Stephanikov Business Centers are made by their studio. The Valued House among the trees was published in many foreign publications, the Brezno Business Center received a nomination for Cezaar and the D.Jurkovič Prize. The studio was the most successful European atelier in the Life Challenge 2015 competition. It is behind town-building projects such as the revitalization of Mickiewicz Street in Bratislava as a natural extension of the Business Street and the Old and New City links, or the transformation of Štefánikova Street in Bratislava into the city boulevard. Co-author of the Bratislava connection concept – bridging the Einstein Street. The principles of urbanization and emphasis on the quality of the environment are also promoted in its own development projects by ITB Development.
BORIS HRBÁŇ, DIPL. ING. ARCH., IMAGINE DEVELOPMENT
Architect. Founding partner of Imagine, which is an innovative developer company, developing housing projects with an emphasis on a social functioning environment and creating of community. Devoted to topics of affordable housing, cooperative and community-based models. He is a member of the administration board of Cvernovka Foundation and is the initiator of assotiation Place for people, which focuses on the availability and quality of housing, as well as sustainable urban development.
JAN ŘEŽÁB, DIPL. ING., JRD DEVELOPMENT
Jan is the owner of JRD developer company, which immediately after its establishment in 2003 became the pioneer of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly housing. Now JRD is the number one on the Czech market. He started as a construction manager, then worked as project manager and production manager. He is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, developer, investor in the areas of: renewable energy sources, new waste processing technologies, real estate. He tries to promote sustainable development in all areas of his life and business. And he is living according to these principles; he is living in a passive apartment, he is a gardener, uses electric cars, and built an active house for his mum … just: Sustainably!
MATIJA BEVK, BEVK-PEROVIĆ ARHITEKTI
Bevk-Perovic Arhitekti was founded in Ljubljana in 1997 by Matija Bevk and Vasa J. Perovic. The office has won several competitions in and outside of Slovenia. Their built work was nominated for and awarded diverse prizes, among them the Plecnik and Preseren Prize, the Red Dot Award and the Mies van der Rohe Prize.
Bevk Perovic take great care in developing typologies further. Each project is an experiment, and the richness of formal variation as well as of material diversity in their work is stunning.
JAN STEMPEL, PROF. ING. ARCH., STEMPEL & TESAŘ ARCHITEKTI
He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Budapest (Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem). From 1984 to 1991 he worked at the SIAL studio in Liberec. In the years 1991-2004 he was the co-owner of the architectural office of A.D.N.S. in Prague. He has participated in many projects of new buildings and reconstruction at home and abroad. He currently works in Stempel & Tesar’s own architectural office and teaches at the Faculty of Architecture, CTU. On September 30, 2011, ČVUT Rector Václav Havlíček appointed Associate Professor of Architecture. In 2012 he was appointed Head of the Design Institute I. On December 18, 2014, he was appointed Professor of Architecture at the Scientific Council of the Czech Technical University in Prague.
MICHAL LEŠINSKÝ, DIPL. ING., iEPD
Authorized construction engineer with 12-year projection experience. As a designer – the architect works at PIO Keramoprojekt, a.s. Trencin. He focuses on the design of residential and public buildings, the creation of energy concepts and the energy renovation of buildings. Graduate of STU Faculty of Architecture in Bratislava. In passive houses and energy efficient concepts of architecture has he been interested since 2002. In his lectures, he is also engaged in the popularization of high-quality indoor building environments and renewable energy sources for buildings. He is also actively interested in BIM design and integrated design.
MATEJ GRÉBERT, DIPL. ING. ARCH., COMPASS ARCHITEKTI
Born in Bratislava in 1981, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Slovak Technical University. As a fresh graduate, he founded, in 2004 together with Juraj Benetin, the architectural studio Compass, which he dedicates to this day. It is behind large multifunctional projects that change the face of present-day Bratislava. The largest is the residential project Slnečnice, which won a number of architectural awards and with the team of architects dedicated to it almost 14 years. He is involved in the rebuilding of the former Cvern factory, today called the Zwirn, the creation of a new urban district called New Ružinov or the ongoing Urban Residence project on Račianska Street in Bratislava. From 2017 he is an executive member of the Board of Directors of the Slovak Chamber of Architects. He is actively engaged in sports. He is married, has two daughters and lives in Bratislava.
